What is a Dental Implant?

The dental implant itself is a small bio-compatible metal post that is surgically inserted into the jaw. Through a process called osseointegration, the bone grows into the grooves of the implant. These posts can be modified to fit a variety of restorations, including:

  • Partial Dentures
  • Full Dentures
  • Single Crowns
  • Bridges

Dr. Wilson will work closely with you to determine which method will best suit your needs. Whatever option you choose, you can count on this tooth replacement solution to permanently improve your quality of life. Dental implants are an investment in your long-term oral health.

The Dental Implant Procedure

The entire placement procedure takes roughly 1 – 2 hours, depending on the quantity and location of your implants, and will take between three to six months to heal completely. Healing time varies depending on individual factors like overall health and genetics. After your implant has healed, we will place your customized crown on top, creating a realistic tooth that feels comfortable and functions just like your natural teeth. Our CEREC machine uses computer-assisted design and manufacturing technology to create beautiful crowns right in our office, so your wait time shortened.

The Implant Advantage

Tooth loss can leave a gap in your mouth that is embarrassing and unhealthy. Without a tooth root to stimulate the jawbone, the body recognizes the inactivity and begins to absorb the calcium. This phenomenon is known as advanced bone resorption, and it can cause a noticeable change in the composition of your facial features.

Dental implants stimulate the jaw and help stop the process of bone resorption. They provide the natural stability of tooth roots and the necessary stimulation to preserve the jaw bone integrity.
